Peppa Pig's Big Splash

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre

****

PEPPA Pig arrived in Wolverhampton to the delight of cohorts of pre-school age children.

A bright colourful set was brought to life by Peppa and friends in a show which animated the characters largely by using puppets.

Children are normally only coaxed into theatres for pantomime season, so anything which increases their exposure to the medium, and at peppa Pig and friendsa young age, is to be welcomed, with the added benefit of bringing in their escorts who may not be regular theatre goers.

Emma Grace Arends leads the show with considerable gusto as Daisy, her pig tails flying alongside her exaggerated hand movements. Daisy’s role is as narrator, and she keeps proceedings zipping along with energy and warmth.

The music and lyrics are written by BAFTA award-winning composer Mani Svavarsson. Of course there are plenty of songs to sing along and dance to. In one section the audience was invited to jump and bounce . The balcony duly shook ,and the stalls groaned, to the synchronised movement of several hundreds of happy tiny feet.

All the favourites were present including George, Danny Dog, Pedro Pony and Suzy Sheep .Audience participation is encouraged, and the two thirty five minute halves ensure the pace rarely relents leaving little time for the young audience to lose interest.

The highlight, and climax, of the show is a puddle jumping competition in which substantial sections of the stalls get splashed with the help of some stage hands , to the delight of all. Any parent or grandparent will enjoy the pleasure of their children, and the professionalism of the show, faithfully bringing the television programme to life. Peppa tours the UK for the rest of 2014.
