Picture: Mark Senior The Lightning Thief The Percy Jackson Musical Malvern Theatres **** An explosive, action-packed thrill ride of a musical blasts onto stage this week at Malvern Theatres as the world of half-blood Greek Gods is immortalised with The Lightning Thief, The Percy Jackson Musical, packed full of monster songs, magic and mayhem to rival any mythological misconceptions. Percy Jackson, Vasco Emauz, at aged 16 didn’t dream about being a half-blood or a hero seeking praise but after being expelled from five schools in just six years he learns the important life lesson where the pen is mightier than the sword and to watch your back for demons of any form, even Camp administrators who could transform you into a dolphin with the flick of his quiff. It’s complicated! Percy is joined by Annabeth, Kayna Montecillo and Grover, Cahir O’Neill, as they embark on a fantastical adventure battling Furies and discovering the family tree lineage leads to Poseidon perfectly orchestrated with an electrifying rock score by Rob Rokicki, illusionist Richard Pinner and set and costume designer Ryan Dawson Laight. Adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel by Joe Tracz, writer and producer of all three seasons of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, there is talent erupting through every trident and the magical chemistry and bonds created by the cast provides a night to remember enjoyed by all ages and worlds.
